Having people look over your shoulder as you work can sometimes be a little unsettling.
We, at TNT, were tasked with removing a 30’ high cyclone fence back stop on a baseball field, along w/ player benches, 180’ of fence & a large scoreboard, 10’ x 16’ that stood 20’ in the air. Our plan regarding the back stop was to cut all the interior upright poles, leaving the last 2 outer poles. We tied a rope to the back of the back stop & attached it to the back of one of the trucks, located just passed 2nd base. Just as I thought this would be a smooth operation, along come the school execs to observe.
The 2 workers then started cutting the outer poles. The plan was to cut ¾’s of the way around the pole & let gravity & the truck do the rest.
As they were cutting, the truck driver’s foot slipped off the brake & the back stop started coming down. I grabbed one guy and pushed him out of the way, while screaming to the other guy (who happened to be my son). The driver noticed his mistake & backed up to relieve the tension.
After regaining my breath and regular heart rate, they resumed cutting. (keep in mind, the suits with the folded arms and stern looks).
Not one minute later, with the relief cuts completed, the driver was waved on. The 30’ h x 50’ w back stop fell in slow motion, with nary a dust particle made airborne with its landing.
WHEW!!!!!
The suits looked at each other, nodded in approval, waved to me, got back in their cars & left.
A smirk could not help but spread across my face along with a gaze upward and a nod of thanks.
It's a new year and thoughts of cleaning out your home are overwhelming your brain. It is never a fun task,
but what a great feeling without all that clutter and unwanted items! So what to do with all that stuff? Do you just throw it out, resell it or donate it to charitable organizations? Now with the way the economy is, you may first think of reselling items that could be worth money and in good condition. You can list them on Ebay or Craigslist and hope for some takers. If that is too time consuming, a thoughtful way would be to donate items to those in need. Churches, shelters and donation centers are always looking for items that are in good shape, from furniture and clothing to small items, such as books and canned food. Here, at TNT, we believe in recycling and donating items that we acquire from our cleanouts. Some of the organizations that we donate to are:
